About
We listen, act, and transform
History:
Holistic Approach to Mental Health took its roots in 2017 and finally became a dream realized in 2021. After working in higher educational institutions, community-based mental health outpatient programs with families as a counselor at Child and Family Guidance Center, public school systems as a graduate and teaching assistant at Texas Christian University and school counselor intern at Hurst Junior High, community-based counselor at Covenant Kids (Foster care and adoption agency), the Dallas juvenile center as a family preservation program manager, and finally at John Peter Smith and other psychiatric emergency rooms as a behavioral assessor, Leah knew more needed to be done.
Passion:
Leah is passionate about helping others overcome their limitations to achieve their potential. She believes, "You will never know what is on the other side unless you take a leap of faith. I did and am forever grateful for those who believed in me before I could see it for myself."
Our Promise:
Our Holistic Approach to Mental Health family thrives because we utilize our gifts to make the world a better place one person and one moment at a time.
We serve children 6 and up, teenagers, and adults (18 - 99 years). Initial video/phone consultation is free! Telehealth appointments are available (telephonic and video sessions). We try to accommodate evening hours...You deserve good things!
Meet the team:
Leah A. Ondiek, Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor (LPC-S):
Hours of availability: Monday - Friday for in-person/virtual sessions from 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM.
Leah is a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor, earning her second master's degree in counseling in 2008 from Texas Christian University, Fort Worth. Leah believes in the human ability to heal from the inside out, outside in, with the right agencies. Before shifting her career focus from educational leadership after graduating with her master’s degree from Emporia University, Emporia, Kansas to counseling, Leah began to identify how persistent patterns of limitation and survival mechanisms, conscious and subconscious, persisted in life as a result of early childhood experiences such as abuse and neglect, mental illnesses in family of origin, substance use, parental absenteeism and lack of knowledge, bullying, immigration, discrimination and racism, natural disasters, and other significant losses and changes in all/any stage of life coined ‘small T and/or Big T Trauma.’
Leah specializes with clients from the age of 16 years to 99 years of age. She has experience working with clients grappling with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), grief, generational immigration dilemmas, work stress, anxiety, depression, physical and mental stress, family conflict, divorce, life transitions-young adults, widower/widows, and empty nester, marital stress, and varied interpersonal conflicts…all leading to lack or very little peace of mind, body, and soul!
Over the past 17 years and interest in neuroscience, Leah has expanded her practice to incorporate holistic approaches such as Mindfulness, Family and couple’s holistic sessions, Spirituality, Nutritional Integration, Somatic awareness and healing, Biofeedback, Social Engagement opportunities, and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing to heal the body and mind.
Leah realizes the importance of a collaborative approach thus works alongside Psychiatric Nurse practitioners at Holistic Approach to Mental Health. Other healing arts are highly recommended: chiropractors, spirituality, and massage and yoga therapy.
Leah is a lifelong learner and practices what she preaches! During her carved out time, Leah enjoys spending time with her daughters and significant other, reading, traveling, massages, and intense and rejuvenating workouts such as weight training, cycling, dancing, Tai Chi, and Yoga. Leah is a certified Zumba instructor and helps teach classes at local fitness clubs for fun and incorporates movement in her group classes at Holistic Approach.
